Letters To Our Sons: August Edition

Two Children Goof Off for the Camera

Last summer, we tried to go to the Bronx Zoo. It was a bust. We didn’t have our game plan in order. We arrived too late. Our snacks were insufficient. Our strategy was all wrong.

But this time was gonna be different. We had our gear. We had our map. We had a game plan.

This time we nailed it.

We saw zebras and snow leopards and gorillas. A polar bear playing with a ball in the water charmed the crowd. You rode on a camel and cruised along on a praying mantis around the Bug Carousel. Your favorite animal was the enormous gharial in the World of Reptiles. The giraffes were your sister’s favorite. Meanwhile, I was smitten with the flamingos (as usual). At the end of the day, you selected a stuffed red panda to remember the day. Randy is a welcome addition to our family.

Happy summer, Bud. It will be over before you know it. Let’s make it a good one.
